Avalanche warning for region Lofoten og Vesterålen Thursday 27.01.2022

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Wednesday 26. January 2022

Mountain weather

Wednesday 26. January 2022

3 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 200 m a.s.l during the evening. Breeze from northeast. -7 °C to 0 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Thursday 27. January 2022

6 mm precipitation, up to 12 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as snow. Fresh breeze from northeast, changing to fresh breeze from the northwest during the evening. -10 °C to -2 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
